Bowmore is undoubtedly one of Scotland’s iconic single malts, and whenever the opportunity arises, we are eager to bottle it. This cask is the sibling to the 17-year-old we released for Whisky Sponge Edition 50. It began its journey as a 2003-distilled Bowmore, matured for around 15 years in refill sherrywood before being briefly removed from cask and then re-entered into a refill sherry butt to continue maturing. The result is a 2003 expression that is technically 18 years old. This cask is fruit-driven and slightly more vibrant than the 17-year-old bottling, which carried a more pronounced sherry influence.
Tasting Notes:
Nose: Immediately, Bowmore’s signature exotic fruits take center stage, with a gentle and salty sherry aroma that’s coastal, fresh, and filled with citrus and mineral notes. Elegant peat smoke threads weave through, adding complexity.
Palate: The fruit character continues to dominate, balanced by a firmer peat smoke, intense salty and coastal qualities, and fantastic mineral and citrus flavors. A touch of smoked beers and dried seaweed adds a rugged edge.
Finish: Long and exotic, with a coastal complexity and a persistent smokiness, rounded out by more seaweed and citrus tones.
