Nothing says ‘serious brewing’ quite like a bloke roasting chestnuts over an open flame. The brewers at Canyon got together for a highly intellectual discussion (read: an excuse to drink beer), and Ollie decided that what the world really needed was a chestnut-packed Amber Ale. And honestly? He was right. It’s roasty, malty, with just the right amount of nutty charm – kind of like the man himself.  

Tucked beneath the historic Edith Cavell Bridge in Queenstown, Canyon Brewing is a craft brewery with a big heart and even bigger ideas. Founded in 2020 by a group of locals—including the Paterson family, long-time Central Otago farmers—it’s a place where sustainability, creativity, and community come together in every pint. From juicy hazies to crisp lagers, their beers are brewed with local ingredients (often grown on their own farm!) and a healthy dose of curiosity. With a second brewhouse now operating on their Cardrona Valley farm, Canyon is pouring bold, flavour-packed beers that reflect the land they come from—while keeping things playful, approachable, and proudly Kiwi.
