Bideona Tempranillo de Laderas Rioja 2022
Laderas Tempranillo is drawn from hillside vineyards (“laderas”) on limestone soils, producing a cooler‑climate expression with real finesse. Expect pure aromas of cherries, red berries, and thyme, with a medium‑bodied palate showing excellent balance between fresh acidity, concentrated fruit, and firm but fine‑grained tannins. A portion ages briefly in used French and American oak for texture, while the rest rests on lees in stainless steel. Resulting in a Tempranillo that’s precise, vibrant, and deeply tied to Rioja Alavesa’s hillside terroir
Bodega Bideona is a modern Rioja Alavesa project built entirely around terroir expression, managing more than 300 tiny old‑vine parcels across villages like Villabuena, Samaniego, Laguardia, Leza, Navaridas, and Baños de Ebro. Their vineyards average 50 years old, with many dating back to the 1920s–40s, all rooted in the region’s signature limestone‑rich hillside soils beneath the Sierra Cantabria. The winemaking is led by New Zealander Nick Goldschmidt, whose vineyard‑first philosophy and international experience bring a fresh, precise, and site‑driven lens to Rioja. Instead of focusing on ageing categories, Bideona crafts village, parcel, and hillside wines using stainless steel, concrete, and older oak to preserve clarity, freshness, and pure Rioja Alavesa identity.
