Reefton Distilling Co. was founded in 2017 in the historic mining town of Reefton, drawing on the region’s lush native rainforest, abundant rainfall, and pioneering heritage to create spirits that feel unmistakably tied to Te Tai Poutini. The distillery operates out of a restored 1870s general store and has grown rapidly, producing internationally awarded gin, vodka, liqueurs, and now whisky. Their production leans heavily on local identity. From foraged botanicals to pristine West Coast water filtered over gifted pounamu, and their whisky programme centres on “George,” their 1800‑litre copper pot still named after legendary gold prospector George Fairweather Moonlight.
