Quinta do Vesúvio is one of the Douro’s great icons. A vast, dramatic estate in the Douro Superior where the slopes are steep, the summers are brutal, and the wines come out with serious presence. Founded in 1823 and now run by the Symington family, Vesúvio is famously one of the last estates still foot‑treading grapes in traditional granite lagares. It’s not nostalgia; it’s because the technique still delivers the power, purity, and structure they’re known for.

The estate’s vineyards stretch across wild, schist‑rich terrain, producing wines loaded with dark fruit, violets, spice, and that unmistakable Douro grip. There’s history everywhere you look, from the massive dry‑stone wall built during the phylloxera crisis to keep locals employed, to the old schoolhouse vineyard that now grows some of their best Touriga Nacional.

Gorgeous floral notes of roses with traces of lavender and fennel in the background. Further aromas of great purity suggest pine needles, forest floor and peppercorn.
