Easthope Winegrowers Gamay Pinot Noir 2024
At Easthope Family Winegrowers, serendipity sometimes writes the script.
What was meant to be their tenth vintage of pure Gamay turned into something far more intriguing: after harvest, DNA testing revealed that some vines thought to be Gamay were actually Pinot Noir.
The result is a happy accident that reunites two noble grapes once separated in Burgundy over 600 years ago; a blend that feels both rebellious and destined.
From the meticulously farmed Two Terraces Vineyard in Maraekakaho, this wine is deeply coloured and aromatic, with heady notes of red plum, ripe raspberry, rose petal, and a dusting of spice.
On the palate, it’s silky and seductive at first sip, then builds into a surprisingly long, structured finish, balancing charm with quiet power. Hand‑harvested, whole‑bunch fermented, foot‑stomped, and matured in seasoned puncheons, it’s a wine that wears its artisanal craft proudly.
Best served slightly chilled, it’s equally at home as a solo sipper or alongside charcuterie, duck, or a simple wood‑fired pizza
