Chateau Musar Hochar Pere et Fils Red 2020
A Blend of Cinsault Grenache and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Deep burgundy in colour with transparent layers showing evidence of Grenache in the blend. Ripe red cherry fruit with plums, dates, mulberries and tea leaves. It is Mediterranean on the palate with sweet tannins and spices. It becomes even better and more refined a day after the bottle is opened. The red wines of 2020 are wines of taste and concentration and the Hochar Red of this year is no exception.
Château Musar is Lebanon’s most iconic winery, renowned for its bold philosophy, eccentric style, and astonishing resilience. Founded in 1930 by Gaston Hochar and later helmed by his son Serge, Musar crafts wines from ancient vineyards in the Bekaa Valley—an area with over 6,000 years of winemaking history. The reds, typically blends of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault, and Carignan, are aged for years before release and known for their unpredictable evolution—sometimes Bordeaux-like, sometimes Rhône-spiced, always distinctive. Whites, made from indigenous Obeideh and Merwah grapes, are oxidative and age-worthy, often compared to old-school Rioja or Jura’s finest. Musar’s minimal intervention approach, organic practices, and refusal to halt production even during Lebanon’s civil war have earned it cult status among collectors, sommeliers, and storytellers alike
